Duties and experiences:

  • Care of patients in Coronary Care Unit and in Cardiological Department (since 1981). Catheterization laboratory and interventional cardiology (since 1981).
  • Member of a Control Committee for Research Contracts, National Program on “Sensors, Actuators, Transducers”, 1984-1986.
  • Participant in the Programs of validation of physical and chemical sensors and coronary catheters for angioplasty (National Research Program of Technologies in Cardiology, 1989-1992).
  • Head of Unità Comune di ChirurgiaSperimentale, S. Piero a Grado, Pisa, since 1994 until present (experimental surgery laboratory).
  • Member of the Commission (Ministry of Health and Ministry of University and Scientific and Technological Research of Italy) for the application problems on animal use in experiments, 1994.
  • Member of National Advisory Board, Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna, Pisa, 2007-2010/2010-2013/2013-2016.
  • Member of the European Society for Artificial Organs (ESAO), from 2011.
  • President of the Committee Centro di Biomedicina Sperimentale (Experimental Biomedicine Centre) - Area CNR – Pisa, from September 2012.
  • Member of the Board of Governors in the European Society for Artificial Organs (ESAO), from October 2012.
  • Member of the Council of Organ Transplantation, appointed by MIUR (Ministry of Education University and Research of Italy), from February 2014.
